Andrey Anro (born 1987 Smarhon, Blr.)

Artist lives and works in Berlin.

Member of the art group Who If Not Us (duet with Vasilisa Palianina) and the Shklatar Collective (Andrey Anro, Vasilisa Palianina, Alexander Adamau).

Basic tools are painting, photography, digital art and installation. Anro explores topics such as collective memory, historical heritage, religion, disappearance and death.

The artist's works are in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow(MOCAK), Poland, in the ART4 Museum in Moscow, in private collections in Lithuania, Sweden, Canada, Russia, and the USA.

Andrey studied at the Moscow State Technical and Technical University. Krasin (Moscow) with a degree in Advertising.

The artist was engaged in staged photography and shot the series "Dyssomnia", in which he rethought Belarusian folklore and the subconscious.

The book "21 glasses. The stories of Yogesh recorded by Anro" is published by the "Trimedia Content" publishing house. The book was republished in 2019 by "tapas books".

Anro began to actively engage in painting, the Lost series appeared, as a material for which portraits of the missing were used, a little later the artist began work for the Face in Shadow series, where he used Cold War images in the prism of mythology and visualized them using figurative painting. In the future, the theme of politics in the artist’s work continues to this day with an emphasis on the dictatorship and the cult of the individual.

Work was underway on a series of graphic works "New World", based on the pages of the magazine "New World" of the 80s, the artist studied the theme of Soviet utopia and nostalgia in post-Soviet society.

The artist worked on the project "Happy Death Society". He studied preparation for death through Catholic practices on the example of the personal history of his grandmother and the religious community "Matki Bożej, Patronki Dobrej Śmierci".

Resident of the Gaude Polonia Scholarship Program (Warsaw, Poland) under the supervision of Adam Panchuk. The result of the work was the author’s photobook "Happy Death Society", printed in a small edition. The book is in the library collection of The Fort Institute of Photography (Warsaw, Poland).

Participant of Goethe-Institut residency program, the artist worked for several
months in the Slavs and Tatars art group. (Berlin, Germany)

Participant of a photography platform Futures and photography festival in Lodz, Poland.
Andrey Anro lives and works in Berlin, at the AdK studio in Künstlerhaus Bethanien.
