The picture is based on a screen shot from the 1987 documentary film One Day of a Soviet Soldier. The film is a propaganda of idealized service in the Soviet Army. The filmmakers create an image of the Soviet Army soldier as an educated, disciplined, and understanding individual with orthodox family values, where the soldier is a defender of the motherland. At the same time, 1987 is the year of the Soviet–Afghan War(1979-1989). According to some opinions, the war in Afghanistan was one of the factors that precipitated the collapse of the Soviet Union.
